20 Not Very Merry Gun arguments from the far right

Fact-Based Reporting by Rob Roman

merry christmas

Gun-grab, gun-free zones, murder magnet,  good guy with a gun, Constitutional right, right from God, tyrannical  government, first step to gun grab, laws on books not enforced, arm the teachers, everyone get a gun, AR-15 for home defense, inanimate object, mental health only, armed militia, cars kill more, not a gun problem, not a problem, not my problem

1) The Government just wants to grab my guns. Pry my gun out of my cold, dead hand, etc. (1)

The Gun – Grabber argument is no argument at all. The 2nd Amendment is here to stay. It has been recognized by the Supreme Court as an individual right, not attached to any militia. This is a government of the people and a government of laws. No one is coming to take your guns away.

imagesCAE7ZPQJThis would require a repeal of the 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms. This requires the votes of 2/3rds of both the House and Senate. Then it must be ratified by 3/4ths of state legislatures. Another way is for 2/3rds of the States to call a convention and then 3/4ths of all State legislatures must approve it.

Can you imagine 67 Senators and 290 Representatives voting to repeal the 2nd Amendment? Can you imagine 34 state legislatures then calling for a Constitutional Convention and then 38 States approving a repeal? It’s never going to happen, so relax. And if it did happen in the future, it would be the will of the people.

2)  A ban or more controls on certain types of semi-automatic military-style rifles and high capacity magazines would just be the beginning. This is an assault on law abiding gun owners. (2)

magThere is no need for these weapons class to be available to the general public. If you want one, you should be willing and able to qualify to have one and use and keep it safely.

3)   Guns are just a tool. They are inanimate objects. People are responsible for misusing guns. Don’t blame the gun.

Guns are a special kind of tool or inanimate object. They are an inanimate object designed to kill. When animated, they can easily cause instant death from both a physical and emotional distance. Not all gun owners are responsible or reasonable. So, we need to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally unstable and other unqualified people.

4)  Knives, forks, cars, and bathtubs are just as dangerous as guns. (4)

The controlling idea here is that it is the person, not the “inanimate object” which wounds and kills. Knives, forks, cars, and bathtubs are not designed specifically to kill. A person armed with a fork or a knife would have a real difficult time killing 26 people in 5 minutes.

An accidental death by car or bathtub is not the same as an intentional killing with a gun. Cars are heavily regulated and insured. The problem is the combination of an impulsive, irresponsible, or mentally disturbed person with an instrument which is designed to kill many people quickly and easily.

5)  An “assault weapon” is fully automatic”. A semi-automatic military style rifle with high capacity magazines is not an “assault weapon”. (5)

rap 4There’s no need for semantic games. The AR-15 is the civilian version of the M-16 military assault rifle. The main reason this weapon was developed was to kill as many people as possible in as short a time as possible.

Guess what? The AR-15 can be easily converted to fully automatic, and many owners know this very well.

6mmThe .223 caliber hollow point round, used in the Sandy Hook Elementary School, was preferred over higher caliber rounds in combat because you can carry more of the smaller rounds and because the round Yaws through the air at 880 meters per second (963 yards per second) .

It then explodes on impact causing baseball sized holes in the flesh. Seth1Internally the bullet causes a massive baseball sized explosion. The bullet then fragments into multiple shards which spin, ricochet off bones, and rip through vital organs.

Emergency Room Doctors will tell you that they don’t see injuries from this weapon very often because most victims never even make it to the hospital and usually bleed to death. (6)

(5.56 mm / .223 gunshot wound)_

6)   I need my semi-automatic military style rifle and high capacity magazines to protect my home and my family.

Is your name Tony Montana? Are you expecting a coordinated assault on your home? No one needs this kind of weapon for home defense.

7)   A ban or further regulation of military style rifles and high capacity magazines will not help save the 500 plus victims killed by handguns each year in Chicago.

This is a classic. There are two separate issues here.

Hadiya Pendleton was shot to death in Harsh Park in Chicago only 1 week after performing in the 2013 Presidential inauguration (click to enlarge)
Hadiya Pendleton was shot to death in Harsh Park in Chicago only 1 week after performing in the 2013 Presidential inauguration. (click to enlarge)

The first is an effort to reduce the rate and lethality of mass shootings. The second is general gun violence.

Irresponsible gun owners try to tie the two together. Then they say that further regulations on certain rifles and magazines won’t stop general gun violence. This is obvious, it’s not meant to do that.

8)   Gun free zones are “murder magnets”. We can’t reduce the rate and fatalities of mass shootings unless we get rid of “gun-free zones” and allow concealed or open carry in all schools and other public places.

This argument assumes that if more “good guys” have guns in schools and other public places, then the “good guys” can stop the “bad guy(s)”.

great-no-guns-signFirst of all, there have been mass shootings where there was a good guy with a gun. Columbine and Arapahoe High Schools both had armed Resource Officers who were ineffective. This argument doesn’t take into account the chaos, the unknown, and the overwhelming fear coming from a shooter with heavy firepower who is ready to kill and to die.

In Sparks, Nevada, what if the math teacher had a gun? At that point in time, only one student was wounded in the shoulder. Do you think this teacher would then be emotionally ready to shoot a 12 year old to death?

Would he then be sued? What about mistakes? Innocent people will be shot in the confusion and people will get caught in the cross-fire.

good guys This is not an episode of Bonanza where the good guy rushes in and fixes everything, bang bang, lickity split.

Even armed police at a shooting enter the fray slowly and carefully. By that time, people have already died. The killing usually happens in a matter of a few minutes, and the shooter always has the element of surprise.

The shooter will change tactics to address the presence of armed staff in a school. The “good guy” with a gun might have a spouse and children, and only very few would heroically charge into a firefight with a mentally disturbed killer armed with superior firepower.

9)   An FBI background check did not stop the Boston Bombers. More people were killed by drones authorized by President Obama than were killed in mass shootings in the USA during the Obama years.

What? These are entirely separate and unrelated issues.

10)   My 2nd Amendment rights come straight from God almighty and are meant to establish an armed militia against a tyrannical government.

wayne 1Some people are always citing the Constitution but at the same time they say that their right to keep and bear arms is a right over and above the Constitution.

This is a nation of laws. If government tried to act in defiance of the 2nd Amendment, it would be stopped by the courts. We have three branches of government, the Legislative branch, the Executive branch, and the Judicial branch. (I find it amazing that a great number of Americans actually don’t know that).

Note the misleading information and the veiled threats, a trademark of far right gun rights advocates.

The Constitution assures that these branches are co-equal and balance each other out. Two of these branches are elected directly by the people. So what are you talking about?

11)   Gun homicides, suicides and gun accidents have declined dramatically since 1994.

Gun homicides were at an alarming rate and peeked in 1994, which spurred the passing of the assault weapons ban and other legislation. imagesCA3U1TQYThe crack epidemic led to a great deal of this violence and Tech-Nines were in use all over.

The rate of gun homicides, suicides, and accidents has remained rather constant since the late 90’s. They are poised to escalate, as many new gun owners have appeared on the scene due to fear and hysteria raised by the far right and gun lobbies trying to convince people that their gun rights will be taken away or severely reduced by the government.

Domestic violence gun homicides and suicides have remained quite constant over the last few decades.

12)  If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.

Guns are not going to be outlawed. Please come up with a newer or more convincing argument.

Michael Dunn, gun enthusiast, allegedly fired 9 rounds into a car full of teens, allegedly killing a high school student.

Way too many unarmed people are being shot to death by citizens who used to be law-abiding gun owners right up to the point where they lost their common sense or control and killed an unarmed person with their gun. (Please see “The Law-Abiding Gun Owner)

13)  Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.

Right you are, so we will need some sensible gun safety legislation, to make gun use safer, and to keep guns and especially the most dangerous guns away from people who should not have them.

14)  Laws won’t help because criminals don’t obey the laws. We have enough laws on the books but they are not enforced.

Then why have any laws at all? E21DD88D-D9AB-4244-8BAE-A58899921B07_mw1024_n_sSmart legislation does work to keep everyone safer and to make it more difficult for unqualified people to get hold of guns.

The laws on the books are not fully enforced because law enforcement has a limited amount of resources and must make difficult decisions about priorities.

If you are talking about going after people who fail the background checks we do have, you cannot go after, arrest and jail people for failing a background check.

The people who make these arguments are the same people who don’t want to help fund the enforcement because it’s “against their core values”.

15)  Chicago has the most gun laws and the most gun deaths, so there!

imagesCAVAW0BSChicago has the most gun laws precisely because they have the most gun deaths. Local legislation is overwhelmed by lax laws in other cities and states, which make guns available to “bad guys” via straw purchasers, the lack of background checks at gun shows and numerous other outlets.

The Chicago gun homicides are mostly related to gangs and drug crimes. Would you like to help attack this problem by spending more money to apply more Federal resources for more prevention and enforcement projects in Chicago?

16)   We don’t need gun control, we need a mental health solution. A mental health only solution is the answer to mass shootings.

Mental health is definitely a component of mass shootings, but if you want to have more mental health services available, are you willing to help fund them?

A mental health only solution is not the answer to reduce the rate and lethality of mass shootings without a gun safety component. The problem at Sandy Hook was not that a mentally disturbed man came to the elementary school and exposed himself or threw crayons at the students.

Crime Scene Evidence (Click to enlarge)
Sandy Hook Crime Scene Evidence (Click to enlarge)

He came armed with two semi-automatic pistols, an AR-15 semi-automatic military-style rifle and ten 30-round high capacity magazines plus 10 magazines for the 9mm Glock and 10mm Sig Sauer. Before this, he shot his mother 4 times in the head with a .22-caliber Savage MK II-F bolt action rifle.

So the problem is not only mentally disturbed people. It is mentally unstable people who can too easily get their hands on highly lethal firearms.

A mental health solution and gun safety are inextricably entwined when it comes to preventing or lowering the rate and lethality of mass shootings.

17)  Mass shooters are mostly liberals and most general gun violence is caused by liberals.

Actor Jeff Bridges star in "The Dude"
Actor Jeff Bridges stars in “The Dude”

This is an over-simplification and an attempt to avoid the issues. Many mass shooters are in their teens and twenties, and the majority of young people start out as liberals.

So, this may be true about mass shooters, but many of them were rebelling against their conservative parents who had introduced them to firearms. Also more conservatives are usually more reluctant to seek psychiatric help for their children.

18)  Millions of AR-15s are in circulation and are being safely owned and operated by law abiding gun owners as we speak.

That’s true, but more and more it has become a sort of conservative right of passage to own and carry weapons. Owning an AR-15, like Nancy Lanza did and like George Zimmerman does is the crowning achievement which gives you street cred. among far-right conservatives. It means you are in the club and you belong.

imagesCAMOBLO0Ownership of this type of firearm is becoming more main stream. Instead of avid hunters, sports shooters, and veterans owning the majority of these weapons, more and more rash, hot-headed, impulsive, irresponsible and unstable people have them or have access to them and more people are not as qualified in their safe keeping and operation.

So that’s a good reason why there should be more controls on this particularly dangerous weapon class.

19)  The Universal background check is not good, fair, necessary because ….. because ….. uh … please see reasons 1 through 18.

There is no valid legitimate reason for not passing a Universal background check for all weapons purchases and transfers. The Gun Industry, the gun lobby and irresponsible gun worshippers cloaked in the American flag and constantly citing our Constitution, just don’t want any further regulations or controls on these weapons, no matter what.

We have a serious societal problem which directly affects gun owners, and some feel absolutely no responsibility to help to do anything about it (even initiatives not involving firearms). Their answer is we should do nothing and their attitude is they don’t care. Isn’t it?

friendsThese are the people who want us to eliminate gun free zones. They expect us to  count on them to pull their pistol and go rushing towards a chaotic situation with a highly disturbed shooter armed with a high powered rifle and high capacity magazines. The good guy with a gun will save the day. It ain’t never gonna happen.

Mass Shooters will ALWAYS seek out schools, malls, theaters, and other public places to make their statements, no matter what. By the time the shooter is in the school or other public place with the element of surprise, it’s already too late no matter how many good guys are legally carrying concealed weapons.

The person you depend on to save you is the same person who watched 20 six and seven year-olds and six educators get shot to pieces and basically said “ I don’t care”, “It’s not my problem”, and “it’s not the gun”.

20)  In this country, and especially in certain parts of this country, we are the most vocal, we are the vocal minority and we will never compromise and nothing about gun safety will ever be done.

Gun-RightsI think responsible gun owners, many NRA members, mothers and other concerned citizens who are not gun owners will all get together to pass sensible gun safety legislation such as the Universal background check and mental health legislation with a gun safety component.

This will only strengthen the 2nd Amendment and make gun ownership more acceptable and responsible to the community.

fight-for-your-rightsYou are the loudest right now, but the will of the people will prevail and you will still have access to all kinds of firearms. (The Constitution, the American flag, and our system of government belong to all of us).

(1) “A new amendment repealing the amendment in question. It must be done exactly the same way, because the repeal itself is an amendment. To begin, a proposed amendment must be voted approved by a 2/3 majority of both legislative bodies of the US Congress. The Proposed Amendment must then be sent to every individual State’s legislature for consideration. Each state follows its own parliamentary process to arrive at a yea or nay on the Proposed Amendment.

For the Proposed Amendment to become a Constitutional Amendment, 3/4 of the individual American States must vote a final yea. With the current body of States numbering 50, the required number of State ratifications to adopt the new amendment is 38. Upon the confirmation of the 38th yea, the Amendment becomes part of the Constitution, amending, or changing, whatever the subject of the amendment covers–whether it be a new cause, or eliminating an old Amendment.”

(2) “United States Supreme Court DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA ET AL. v. HELLER, (2008)

No. 07-290 Argued: March 18, 2008    Decided: June 26, 2008

Held:

1. The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.

2. “Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose:  For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues. The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms. Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those “in common use at the time” finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons.””

http://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-supreme-court/554/570.html

3. The distinction of the fact that the primary purpose of a gun is to kill people is relevant because as a society, we tend to regulate physical items themselves based on a combination of a few things, including 1) their primary purpose (i.e., benefit) and 2) their lethality. Guns and other weapons are different from other items because their primary purpose/benefit and their lethality are one and the same.

Another common comparison gun advocates make is “well, heart disease kills way more people a year—600,000–why don’t people focus on regulating cheeseburgers?” or “cars kill 30,000 people a year too–why don’t we get rid of all cars?” The answer is that we do regulate cars and cheeseburgers and try to prevent their related deaths, but we do it with a logical relationship to their primary purpose and their immediate lethality. I assert that as Americans, we regulate guns in an illogical manner as compared to everything else we regulate.

http://www.allgeneralizationsarefalse.com/why-guns-are-not-like-spoons/

4. “When you get in your car and turn it on, the goal in mind is to get from wherever you are currently to wherever you are wanting to be. A successful drive of a car involves you and your passengers if applicable arriving at your destination, all involved are unharmed. Vehicular injuries or deaths generally arise as a result of some form misuse (either negligence or carelessness), badly designed road or badly designed vehicle. If you attempt to use a vehicle for its intended purpose and nothing goes wrong, nobody gets harmed.

On the other hand with guns, when you pick up a gun and pull the trigger, the idea is the thing its pointed at gets maimed or killed- i.e. that is its designed purpose. If you point a gun at something and pull the trigger, and the thing its pointed at isn’t injured or killed, either you didn’t use it well (i.e. you missed) or it isn’t a very good/well designed gun.

When we’re talking about vehicular deaths, they are referred to as “accidents,” whereas when someone gets killed by a gun its referred to as a “shooting.” In the firearm scenario, the “shooter” has successfully carried out a “shooting,” where as in the vehicle scenario the “driver” has had “an accident.”

Considering the Lame Argument That Asserts Cars Kill More People Than Guns

The argument under consideration clarifies that, when it comes to murders, people are the ultimate cause and guns are merely proximate causes—the end of a causal chain that started with a person deciding to murder. But nothing follows from these facts about whether or not guns should be regulated. Such facts are true for all criminal activity, and even noncriminal activity that harms others: The ultimate cause is found in some decision that a person made; the event, activity, or object that most directly did the harming was only a proximate cause. But this tells us nothing about whether or not the proximate cause in question should be regulated or made illegal.

5) “Because of their deadly design, assault weapons amplify the carnage of public shootings. A review of mass shootings between 2009 and 2015 by Everytown for Gun Safety found that incidents where assault weapons or large capacity ammunition magazines were used resulted in 155% more people shot and 47% more people killed compared to other incidents. When access to assault weapons is restricted, deaths due to mass shootings decrease. A 2014 study found that “both state and federal assault weapons bans have statistically significant and negative effects on mass shooting fatalities.”

lawcenter.giffords.org/gun-laws/policy-areas/hardware…/assault-weapons/

6)  “But the worst is a wound from an AR-15 or AK-47 — high-muzzle velocity weapons, which impart a tremendous amount of kinetic energy into the body. Those are much more destructive. You’re looking at a wound that, externally, is two, three, four times bigger than any handgun wound. And that is reflective of the damage that happens on the inside. When a bullet from a high-muzzle velocity weapon hits the intestines, it’s like an explosion, whereas a low-muzzle velocity can be very similar to a knife going through the intestines; there’s bleeding, but it doesn’t destroy the whole area. A high-muzzle bullet, however, destroys whole areas of body. With a bone that’s been shot with a standard-issue caliber handgun, you’ll see a break, a hole in the bone, and maybe some displacement. But a high-muzzle weapon shatters that bone into hundreds of microscopic pieces, in a way that cannot be repaired.”

https://www.thetrace.org/2015/09/bullet-injuries-wounds-trauma-surgery/

Furthermore, AR-15 bullets don’t just affect the skin and the tissue immediately under it. In addition to turning a bone to dust or liver into jello, the high energy would also cause damage around the entry and exit wounds.

When a high-velocity bullet pierces the body, human tissue can ripple just like water does when you throw an object in it. But it all happens at increased velocity. The bullet and its ensuing fragments might miss a critical artery, but the cavitation effect could tear through blood vessels.

Rhee also said that a handgun would require only one surgery, but an AR-15 bullet wound needs three to ten.

Because it’s designed so well, the AR-15 fires almost without recoil, meaning that a shooter can inflict more damage with multiple bullets accurately hitting the same target. “The gun barely moves. You can sit there boom boom boom and reel off shots as fast as you can move your finger,” Denver Health trauma surgeon and Journal of Trauma and Acute Surgery editor Ernest Moore told Wired.

A word about the “Sandy Hook Hoaxers” (December 4)

Fact based reporting

by Kenneth Jameson, Amanda Chen and Rob Roman

images (2)

Attention: All Sandy Hook Hoaxers to the Office Please!

On the one year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School Massacre and one year after the victims were laid to rest, can we also bury these hateful conspiracy theories and hoax accusations that are still being broadcasted as recently as today?

9146424_origAlthough I do sympathize with people who buy into these theories because of the over- zealous efforts to maintain privacy, that’s as far as my sympathies go.

We have viewed all the most popular of these YouTube videos and internet articles talking conspiracy with such titles as “Sandy Hoax School”, “Sandy Hook Line and Sinker” and “Unraveled in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Dimensions.

Please be advised, we have had enough of this nonsense, already. You are now under detention.

Here are some of the most citied reasons for thinking that what happened on December 14th, 2012, didn’t really happen:

SANDY-HOOK-ELEMENTARY-VICTIMS-730x365

Posts and Reports Before the Attack

1) Face book posts, tweets, etc. predate the tragedy. Time zones and the way these social media sites archive information and update previous articles and posts are the reason why there are these time differences. This is whypeople seemed to be discussing the tragedy “before it happened”, etc.

Adam Lanza’s death certificate reads December 13th. There is a lot of red tape to correct such an error. If this was a carefully designed hoax, this mistake would have never been made.

No Visibly Injured Victims

2) Only 3 injured were rushed to the hospital, the 26 dead were not. This speaks for itself.

Out of sensitivity to the victim’s families and the town, the victims were taken out under the cover of darkness after the crime scene had been processed.

download

The Empty Triage Area

3) There were no injured victims in the triage area. The 26 were dead and there were no injured victims to triage.

An Emergency Room MD, who was teaching a class to other medical personnel on gunshot wounds, told the class that the ER doesn’t see too many patients with wounds from  .223 hollow point rounds fired from high powered rifles. The reason? The Doctor said that most people never make it to the Hospital with these wounds.

Nothing Happening at the Scene

4) Nothing is happening outside the school during the tragedy. The footage you see is one or more hours AFTER the shooting and authorities blocked the driveway to keep hysterical parents away from the school.

adam-lanza-elite-dailydownload (1) left

“Adam” is really Ryan

5) Adam Lanza is really Ryan Lanza. Actually, his features are similar maybe because they are brothers.

Connecticut_School_Sh_John_22_t607

The Parents Were “Crisis Actors”

6) All the Sandy Hook parents are actors and musicians and are older than most parents of 6 year-olds.

In real reality, some of the 20 parents have acting and musical talent. This has always been true of Newtown and is truer today. Many people living in Newtown work and perform in Manhattan and other, nearby musical and acting venues.

Most of the parents of the victims stayed out of the limelight. Naturally, the parents with acting and performing experience were more comfortable with public speaking and therefore volunteered to be the spokespeople. The more mature parents were willing to came forward and speak to the media.

images (3)

Memorial Christmas Trees Stored at Firehouse Before the Tragedy

7)  We had a good laugh at this one. The Christmas trees decorated and placed as memorials to the victims were seen on video in a pile behind the firehouse before it was known what had happened. In real reality, many firehouses hold Christmas tree sales as a fund-raiser and this firehouse has done so for decades. The December 14th date means these trees may have been leftovers.

Medical Examiner Acted Strangely

8) The Medical Examiner, whose name is ironically “Carver”, acted oddly. In real life, unlike on TV shows, people span the full range of personality types. Think about the fact that this man had just performed autopsies on many of the tiny 6 year-olds with unspeakable wounds. In light of this, there is little strange in anything he said or did.

Adam Lanza Not Known or Seen

9) No one had heard of or talked to Adam Lanza in 3 years. I can’t think of a rational explanation for that except that, just maybe, he was living in a self-imposed isolation.

Manipulated Victim Photos

10) The photos of the victims with their families appear photo shopped. You can look at almost any photo and claim it is photo shopped for one reason or another.

Manipulated Shooter Photos

11) There are no photos of brothers Adam and Ryan Lanza together. There are no photos of these brothers together that were RELEASED TO THE MEDIA, for obvious reasons.

There are no recent photos of the brothers together, also for obvious reasons. One more thing – Adam did not like to have his photo taken, and he’s not the only one who’s like that.

Victims Parents Were New to Newtown

12) Some of the parents moved to Newtown a few years before the tragedy. I can’t really answer that one except that just maybe, many parents buy a home and move to a town around the start of their children’s schooling.

Student Made Reference to a “Drill”

13) A Sandy Hook Student recalling the tragedy days later spoke of a “drill”. Yes, the school had a lock down drill 2 weeks before the shooting and the student was drawing comparisons saying his experiences were similar to the drill.

15-1n008-firehouse1-c-300x250C

Complacent and Smiling Parents

14)  The parents were really “crisis actors” and were smiling and even laughing days after they lost their children. If they were good crisis actors, they would not have laughed and smiled at all, would they? Real people actually laugh and smile at times, even in the midst of a tragedy. Most people feel the whole range of emotions at such a time.

Pray that you do not have to bear a horrendous and inexplicable tragedy in your life for you to know how the victim’s families really felt and behaved.

The Shooter and his Mother were Autopsied Last

15) The autopsies of the children and other victims were done before the shooter and his mother. Why were these autopsies done last if they are the most important from a forensic viewpoint? Because they were the most important from a forensic viewpoint is precisely the reason they were autopsied last rather than first.

Second Shooter and Other Suspects

16) There were other suspects outside the school. The new report makes clear that there were in fact individuals outside the school, a parent who heard the report on the radio and came to the school, an off duty policeman spotted by other police in the woods, a looky-loo who heard the news and came to see what he could see, and two reporters.  Some were detained and brought to the police station because the police were not going to take any chances.

Amusingly, the new report reveals that some police dropped shotgun rounds on the ground both inside and outside the school. These were photographed and became evidence in the case.

393813911_640 new

The “Firehouse Circle”

17) People  were reported to be walking around aimlessly in circles outside the firehouse. Concerned parents coming to the firehouse were arriving and being told to go to another entrance. Also, people who had been sitting inside for so long came out to stretch their legs.

The “conspiracy” footage we saw shows the same two cars repeatedly cruising down the same short stretch of road in the background, similar to what you see in the background of a Flintstone’s episode. It was obviously doctored. Thank-You, we had some more laughs.

There was also a claim that the 26 stars on top of the firehouse were placed there before the tragedy. Alright, then. We believe you, we surely do.

st_rose_of_lima_school

Video of police Entering a Different School

18) There is footage of heavily armed and helmeted police teams rushing to a nearby Catholic school, called the Saint Rose (of Lima) School. Maybe, just maybe the police secured nearby schools, and all schools in the surrounding area and towns were locked down as part of the response protocol. More than maybe, it’s a certainty. Sorry, hoaxers.

FEMA Response Drill Nearby

19) A FEMA “active shooter drill” was held 14 miles away in nearby Bridgeport on the same day as the Sandy Hook shootings. These kinds of drills are held all around the country, especially since 9-11, and between the holidays is a slow time when many of these events are held.

The Good Samaritan Ploy

20) The good Samaritan and retired psychologist, Gene Rosen, who was so kind to help the scared and confused children who ran out of Ms. Soto’s classroom (when Adam Lanza was re-loading), out the front door and down the driveway, was vilified as a “screen-actors” guild member (not true), and a part of the conspiracy.

To top it off, Gene Rosen owned the same model and color car as Adam Lanza drove to the school. Of course, the government uses only a certain model and color car for this special children massacre “drill”. Poor Mr. Rosen was hounded for months by the conspiracy theorists. This only goes to prove the theory that no kind act ever goes unpunished.

We need many more people as kind and understanding as Gene Rosen.

628x471 (1)

All the Black and Silver Cars

There was also much made of the fact that many of the Sandy Hook cars were silver or black. White, silver and black cars are the most popular and have the highest resale value. Many leased cars are one of these colors.

I have a black car. Before that, I had a silver car. My father has a silver car. Before that he had a white car and my mom had a black car. My brother has a silver car. And his son has a black car. We all must be part of this vast car conspiracy.

There truly is a Sandy Hook Conspiracy: All these Hoax reports are the conspiracy. A few gun rights activists want nothing more than to believe that these attacks never happened at all, happened with only handguns, or  that these attacks are only about mental health issues and have nothing to do with the weaponry used. So, these videos and articles have a large audience.

SHS_ArtLike the Aurora Theater Shooting. There is a severe lack of information and evidence which is publicly available. Unlike the Aurora Theater Shooting, the Sandy Hook shooting is a closed case. There will be no prosecutions and there will be no trial.

It’s time to reveal more information.

The latest “New Report”, first promised in June, but released in late November, 2013, is not representative in any way of what the investigation has uncovered. There was way more information discovered than what was reported. We, the public, do not need to know every detail of an investigation. But this is not enough by any standard.

It is not a “Reader’s Digest condensed version or even a “Cliff’s Notes” Version. It’s more like a “cheat sheet version”.

download (3)Cleverly designed to appear to be revealing lots of information while revealing almost nothing, the authorities have gone too far in withholding basic information. The public has a right to know. This paltry report took 11 months to release?

No one expects identifying photos of the victims, but a video screen shot of the shooter or some concrete representation of the attack is needed. A photo of a broken window and some glass shards are not enough. Perhaps the state of Connecticut is waiting until after the Anniversary of the attack and the holidays before revealing more information. But I suspect this is nearly all we will see, and that is grossly inadequate.

People need a little more information so we fully realize the gravity of this horrendous act. This way, we can finally get together and make sure we find ways to reduce the number and the lethality of mass shootings and the possibility of this happening again.

images (1)The Sandy Hook shooting is thought by many to be a vast conspiracy aimed at providing a catalyst to spur gun control legislation. No, the ability of mentally disturbed people to easily get hold of weapons, many of these weapons owned by law-abiding gun owners, is the catalyst for mental health AND gun safety legislation.

The simple fact is that guns make impulsive behavior into deadly behavior, because of the ease of operation, and the shooter can do this from both an emotional and physical distance. So we need to find a way to keep them away from unstable people.

You cannot address mental health issues in the context of mentally disturbed people who use military style weapons and large capacity magazines to commit mass shootings without including gun safety measures.

hsuHey You!

-Hoaxers and conspiracy theorists! I hope it’s only because you enjoy the detective work and the hobby of engaging in speculation and creating slick videos. I truly hope you do not believe all this hooey. Besides, it’s kind of hateful and disrespectful.

I would like to give you a proper response, but I am trying to evolve and be more civil!

The Sandy Hook Atrocity, JFK, and 154 Magic Bullets (part 4)

Fact based reporting

by Kenneth Jameson Jr.,

research by Amanda Chen,  edited by Rob  Roman

A 4-part series by a Sandy Hook Elementary alumnus on the one-year anniversary of the tragedy. An overview of Newtown from the inside, a description of what is now known about what happened on December 14, 2012 (Including a possible motive), an analysis of  the different sides of the issues, and what the prognosis is for slowing the rate of mass killings and gun violence in America are all discussed.

Part 4: Response

Yeah, of course, the magic bullet needed to solve the problem of mass shootings is more guns. Who would have thought?

628x471 (1)Yeah, of course, if you have a child who is obviously mentally disturbed, who refuses to speak and has no meaningful interaction, you should do what Nancy Lanza did. Her child was e-mailing her from two rooms away. If you have a child who is now an adult but doesn’t want to get a job, find a constructive hobby, enroll in a school or seek help, what would you do?

That’s right! Firearm therapy. Don’t get him a paint set, a telescope or build him a sound studio or his own dance studio. Don’t buy him a horse, a keyboard, a robot or set him up with his own computer business. Just let him fester and decay and leave him to his own devices. Let him sit in his “lair” and block out the sun with trash bags. Just take him to the firing range and buy him his favorite weapons. Indulge his every anti-social whim. Makes sense to me.

No one dared say “NO!” to Adam Lanza until the morning of last December 14th.

download (7) download (6)The young man who enjoyed “Dance Dance Revolution” as much as he liked “Mortal Combat”, and  was ready with an ammo vest, a hat, sunglasses. yellow ear-plugs, fingerless gloves, and camouflage leg holsters had a date with destiny. He had watched videos of gun suicides, taken photos of himself holding guns and rifles to his head, and had practiced aiming, shooting, reloading, and gunning down students with computer games such as “Grand Theft Auto”, “School Shooting”, “Battlefield”,  and “Left for Dead”.

article-sandy-hook-shootingEvery time there is a mass shooting, it sickens us and is unimaginable. Not much different from terrorism, it’s really a sort of domestic terrorism, and nothing more. These people have a limited personal agenda, unlike Timothy McVeigh, Ted Kaczynski and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, who had more of an overall political agenda. Still, they are striking out at humanity in a way. They hurt, and they want to hurt their communities back. In some cases, they are striking out at their towns, the country and even the world. The idea of murdering innocent people, who have no direct relationship with the shooter, just doesn’t make sense to most of us.

Sadly, now these mass killings have become almost routine in this country. When the news of Sandy Hook first hit the internet and the news, there was talk of a shooter, but no talk of casualties. Since we’ve seen this play out so many times before, we knew that they don’t mention that anyone died until the next of kin are notified. So, the longer it stayed on the news, the worse we knew it would be. Even so, it was far worse than we could have imagined.

644700_334365313353303_1935252436_n-thumb-250x250-103888As incomprehensible as these other crimes are, we can try to understand most of them a little. At Springfield, Oregon, Kip Kinkel was the son of accomplished and driving parents. He didn’t measure up and he turned to deviance. He seemed to lash out at his classmates and just seemed to attack them as a punishment for feeling they forced him to kill both his parents. At Columbine, these two were striking out at their peers and community. At Virginia Tech, this angry man was also trying to deeply wound all the students at his school.

The Sandy Hook shooting was even more horrific and incomprehensible. Adam Lanza had no recent connection with The Sandy Hook School. These kids were 6 and 7 years old. Was his intended target really Newtown High School? The reason he went to the rooms he did seems not to be the ages of the children, but because they were the closest to the entrance and his car and he could see out the front windows. Sandy Hook School doesn’t have as many unknowns. At Newtown High, there are too many doors, too many driveways, too many people coming in and out and not enough windows. He did not want to be touched, and he didn’t want to get in a position where he could be attacked from behind.

The children were smaller and posed less of a threat to him. He had more control there. As a student at Sandy Hook Elementary, Adam was reportedly happy. By 5th grade, he was already writing stories about killing children. So I believe Sandy Hook School may have represented for him, the end of his happiness, and it only got worse after that. After years of decay, this person had no care, no empathy, and no feelings left for anyone. He projected that emptiness out onto everyone and everything he saw. Like Kip Kinkel, he just couldn’t accept what he was.

He knew what time to go there and he knew no one would be outside. He shot the adults on sight, eliminating the biggest threats first.

f8b79719baee2727440f6a7067004062Take a look at his firearms, they are really magnificent looking. Look at the design of them. They are really bad – ass. These weapons fill a void for some people who are incomplete. They project power outwards. This is what Adam was doing, he was projecting power outwards. He was controlling the environment that had controlled him for so long and had shut him away. He wanted to say to Newtown  and possibly the world: “I was here” and “I controlled you”.

That’s the best I can come up with as far as a motive.

I have a harder time understanding his mom. Nancy Lanza is the one we need to study. To understand Adam, we really need to understand Nancy Lanza.  Nancy was self-reliant and she was going to handle the problem herself. She had a distrust of government and a distrust of Doctors. She had a fortress with an arsenal of firearms. Her home was chock full of weapons such as arrows, spears, ornate knives and swords. What was that all about?

download (8)Maybe for some women, the sewing circles and card clubs of yore have now been replaced by a gun culture which opens up doors for community and socialization. Nancy spent a lot of time at her favorite restaurant and bar hobnobbing with her buds. Want to get in with certain clubs? Buy a Bushmaster AR-15, and you’re in the club. That’s my feeling.

Tupperware parties have now been replaced with gun parties.

You think I’m kidding? Take a look at this:

“At GunEnvy, we know what it takes to make your event, the event of a lifetime

Let us put together a custom package for your next event or party, that will really kick it off with a BANG!

We provide machine gun rental packages, in a safe, controlled environment, that will be sure to make your party or event the envy of all those to come.

From full auto Glock pistols, to MP5s, AK47s, M4s, 1919 and many more, including the legendary Tommy gun!!!!

Events can be held at your suitable location*, or our private location.”

-No, this is not a joke.-

Guns could very well go mainstream, just like tatoos finally did.

What would the character from Sling Blade say?

“All right, then.”

Back to Adam Lanza:

Noah_Pozner_20121217121328_640_480 image

All of these mass murders are shocking. But this one, because of the ages of the children, the number of deaths, and the fact that no one that he targeted and shot lived, makes this so much more heinous. This shooting really shook the nation. And it shook people who live in Newtown and Sandy Hook alumni like me and my sister even worse. What is going on in America? Connecticut has over 300 towns and thousands of schools. This happened in a school I went to and loved. What are the odds? For the children who lived through this and were traumatized it is even worse, and for the family and friends of the victims, it is unimaginable.

The shock to the conscience we received as a Nation from the Sandy Hook Massacre can only compare with the shock we felt after the Oklahoma City Bombing, Columbine, 9-11, and the assassination of President Kennedy.

It was unspeakable and unimaginable, an act so wanton and grotesque that it short circuits the brain. There is absolutely nothing that can justify it, but much worse than having a sick and twisted reason for committing a heinous atrocity is to have no reason at all.

download (5)It brings to mind the 1979 Cleveland Elementary school shooting where the shooter, Brenda Spencer, who lived across the street, and from her window, shot the principal and a custodian to death and wounded 8 children and a policeman in San Diego,. She was asked why. Her response became a hit song by the Boom Town Rats. “I don’t like Mondays”. Her father was told by her school she should seek hospitalization. Her father opted to not have her committed and he bought her a rifle for her birthday instead.

At Sandy Hook Elementary, the poor children locked in a toilet were crying and begging to go home so they could just have Christmas, how awful.

Like the other shocks, our first response is absolute helplessness and our second response is to ask WHY?

images (16)After the Kennedy Assassination, Americans all felt helpless and vulnerable and they all asked why. They are still asking, from the Warren report, to mistrust of their government, to all the many magic bullet and conspiracy theory spin offs and then finally back to the Warren report again, many are still asking “Why”.

“The only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun” – Wayne LaPierre, Executive Vice President of the NRA

With those gems of wisdom, Wayne LaPierre is the winner of the 2013 Newtown Golden Cock award.

Who is the President of the NRA? He’s David Keene, who’s son was convicted for firing a gun out of a moving car on the George Washington Memorial Parkway in Virginia in 2002, shattering the back window of another car and lodging in the front seat perilously close to the driver. After this road rage incident, his son was sentenced to 10 years in prison. David Keene then changed his hardliner tune on mandatory minimum sentencing legislation for firearms violations. Go figure.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/josh-sugarmann/new-nra-prez-david-keenes_b_856268.html

Jack Ruby was the good guy with a gun who only made matters worse. You cannot take Evil and twist it’s arm until it gives up. You cannot wrestle Evil to the ground and make it cry “Uncle!”. That’s what the Bill Stevens and the Wayne LaPierres of this world need to learn, because then you have now become the bad guy.

images (17)Bill Stevens with all his bluster and thinly veiled threats  is not the hero of Newtown. The secret to heal a town and a nation won’t come from a firearm. Maybe there is a clue to what a real hero is really about in this poem:

here is the deepest secret nobody knows

(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud

and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;

which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)

and this is the wonder that’s keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart(i carry it in my heart) – e.e, cummings

images (18)The only thing that can stop a bad guy is transformation, that’s the lesson of the Grinch who Stole Christmas.

That’s the lesson of the Sandy Hook Promise.

The only redeeming thing in this abhorrent tragedy is the good people of Newtown  and the good people throughout our nation and the world who responded to this unthinkable act by choosing love. They answered random violence with directed kindness, they answered insanity with lucidity, and they answered decay with germination.

They replaced hopelessness with optimism.

The kind and supportive words from leaders around the world, the cards and gifts sent to Newtown and the Sandy Hook victims from around the U.S. and the world. All the empathetic and caring people who make this country great and sent light into the darkness of Newtown.

The victims and families of other shocking mass killings who came to help, the people who brought the trauma therapy dogs, the spontaneous memorial sites full of candlelight, ribbons, and toys, was the answer that echoed back from this abomination.

ct-shooting-cynthia-alvarezThe good people of Newtown took a horrific and senseless tragedy and somehow turned it into an opportunity to change and to grow. They brought the Holidays back to Newtown and they brought Christmas back to Whoville.

The people of Newtown, conservative and liberal, gun enthusiasts and not, all got together for their love of humanity and the love of their children to bring about some changes and to somehow reduce the chances that another town would have to bear the unbearable. One of the outcomes was the founding of an organization called the Sandy Hook Promise.  At this one year Anniversary, this is no time to get lost in rhetoric and political intransigence. This is no time to stumble or to give up. In truth, it’s only just the beginning of a long journey.

We can choose to parent together and look out for each other. It really does take a village (like Sandy Hook) to raise our children and to help keep them safe

We can choose to help change and improve our violent and competitive culture.

Hadiya Pendleton was shot to death in Harsh Park in Chicago only 1 week after performing in the 2013 Presidential inauguration (click to enlarge)

We can choose to risk and sacrifice for the good of the whole, like 6 year-old Sandy Hook victim, Jesse Lewis did when he saw Adam Lanza struglling to change magazines and urged the kids to run, saving the lives of 6 children.

We can choose to be kind to the least of us. We can be a friend to the lonely, the downtrodden and the isolated, like 7 year-old Sandy Hook victim, Daniel Barden, was for his fellow classmates. If there were more people like Daniel  in Adam’s life, this tragedy may have been averted

We can replace the fear of failure, with the assurance of music and hope, like 6 year-old Sandy Hook victim, Anne Marquez-Greene did nearly every day.

We can help to make our schools and our public places safer….

….and let’s never stop pursuing better and more effective ways to  deal with mental illness and gun safety.

images (19)Don’t sweep it under the rug. Expose the truth.

We can call Wayne LaPierre and Bill Stevens, who want to handle it all by themselves, AFTER security is restored

For Newtown, For Newtown, Steady and Strong are We.”

Part 3: The Aftermath

$(KGrHqRHJBMFIPnT5rLkBSMLKtn5(Q~~60_35First of all, when discussing firearms, don’t mistake the word “clip” for the word “magazine”. A magazine can be external or integral to the firearm. The difference between a clip and a magazine is the presence of a “feeding device”. Of course, some law abiding gun owners and gun enthusiasts believe that if you don’t know about firearms, you are not qualified to opine on how to reduce gun violence or save the lives of future gun victims. They have a point, except for one small problem. Too many law abiding gun owners and gun enthusiasts, clever as they are about such things as caliber and rate of fire, offer zero solutions.

Of course, the landlord in Vermont who shot the unarmed young couple to death over a parking space and the man in Georgia who shot an unarmed young man dead because he mistakenly pulled into his driveway, were both “law abiding gun owners”. They were law abiding at least until they lost control and murdered people so easily with guns.

The young man pulled into the driveway by mistake because of a G.P.S. error. The homeowner who shot him dead probably did so because of all the far right hype he was hearing on TV and over the internet about the government coming to confiscate his guns.

download (3)“A father of a Sandy Hook Elementary School student testified on January 28, 2013 in a Working Group Public Hearing at the Connecticut State Capitol on gun violence prevention. While Bill Stevens’ fifth grade daughter was not harmed in the incident, she was one of the children that were in “lock down” during the shooting and following it. However, Mr. Stevens said that his daughter’s friend’s little sister was one of the children that was murdered “when 911 and ‘lock down’ were not enough to protect her from an evil person, not protect her from an ‘assault rifle’ or some type of an inanimate object, but from an evil person.”

“He then stated that he was not there to quote statistics, the number of lives saved with a gun or even the economic impact. He also said he wasn’t there to discuss “asinine legislation” gun control laws that were being talked about.”

Bill Stevens, whose daughter Victoria was in 5th grade lock down in another school during the Sandy Hook shooting, and knows someone who knows one of the victims, said that the laws on the books are good enough if enforced, and personal responsibility and enforcement are the key.

He went on to say that his constitutional right to own firearms and to protect his daughter comes from God and not from the government.  He said at home if there is a break-in, he will call 911 AFTER security has been restored in his home. Bill Stevens said you will have to pry his gun and the ability to protect his child “from his cold dead hands”. Fair enough.

I guess Bill Stevens wins the Newtown Golden Cock award for January, 2012.  Adam Lanza was under no obligation to seek treatment and the firearms in the Lanza Household were legally purchased and some (the most dangerous) were properly stored in a gun vault. Actually, no laws were broken that day besides driving without a license and trespassing. Oh yeah, and mass murder. That’s against the law, too.

usa-connecticut-school-shootingAnd, Billy, no one ever threatened to take your gun away, so relax.

We should be tired of hearing this tired lie over and over.

Victoria Stevens may be a cool kid, but Bill Stevens, who seemed to be some corporate big shot, cold and lifeless as an inanimate object, like the Newtown cock at the top of the meetinghouse in February, did not lose a child and is no different than any other citizen of the USA. Some how, a simple fact such as gun ownership has fired him up and makes him feel like a man. His idea is to do nothing. He wants every law on the books enforced, but he would not vote to pay for this enforcement, because that’s part of his “core values” – translation: Let’s do nothing.

My sister’s daughter was also on lock down that day, and she doesn’t even live in Newtown. That’s because they have a very good system in Fairfield County so that when there’s a shooting alert, all the schools in the surrounding area are locked down, too.

My sister would have just as much right to speak at the Connecticut hearing as Bill. Does she own any firearms? Maybe, but I don’t know. It’s not the prime subject of conversation. It’s not her life, it’s just a firearm. That’s the difference. My sister would say to do anything you can to reduce the chance that another mass shooting will happen. Maybe that’s what God would want, too, not just letting Bill Stevens have a gun.

598429_10151333210605479_466605897_nA real Sandy Hook parent is the father of James Mattioli, 6, who actually was gunned down at Sandy Hook. He is also against any gun legislation.  What he said, was that we need more civility and better parenting in this country and that the gun laws in Chicago did not save the 500 or so killed there in 2012. He said we need mental health legislation.

Mark Mattioli was smart in saying that we need some mental health legislation to help prevent mass shootings. The problem with that is that Adam Lanza didn’t drive over to the Sandy Hook School and expose himself or throw crayons at 1st graders, he took 3 firearms, over 20 magazines, 301 rounds of .223 hollow point rounds, and another 100 or so rounds of 10 mm and 9 mm ammunition. All that was required was that he point and shoot, and not care a fig about other human beings.

earth globe made with flags of the worldMark Mattioli was wise to point out that it is partly a cultural problem.  He’s correct that all the laws in Chicago did not save the lives lost to gun violence. But we were talking about mass shootings, not general gun violence.

Who knew that cities and states with the highest population have the most murders? Go figure. Maybe that’s why gun legislation needs to come from the federal government, so there is a uniform policy across all states and cities. Now, that wouldn’t be fair to suburban and rural communities because cities are different. Translation – Let’s do nothing.

While liberals were moving to re-impose a previous ban on “assault weapons” and “high capacity magazines”, plus universal background checks for all firearms purchases, conservatives were recommending that all schools be protected by the police and that teachers and school staff be allowed to carry concealed weapons. “Gun-free zones” are an open invitation to shooters and should be eliminated, they say.

The “assault weapons” ban met with disapproval because people want to possess and enjoy semi-automatic rifles. They claimed that the difference between some of these rifles and others are merely cosmetic, such as folding stocks, grips, and muzzle fire suppressors.

The ban on “high capacity” magazines was scoffed at because, there are already so many of these in circulation. In addition it was claimed that a person could easily fabricate homemade magazines.

The Universal background check was viewed with alarm by conservatives because this would necessitate  the government to create a database of gun owners and their purchases, and this could be used to forcibly remove arms from homes in a future government takeover in violation of the 2nd amendment.

Most of these are very good points and people who want to see more restrictions should listen to responsible gun owners on these points. But not all gun owners are responsible or reasonable when it comes to guns or the 2nd amendment.

c1218cjThe often repeated idea that some people in some states need high powered semi-automatic military style rifles with high capacity magazines to protect and defend their homes from multiple invaders is just laughable. I haven’t heard of any “Scarface” type home invasions happening anywhere in America.

Warning: Language and Violent Content

The idea that there will be a government tyranny conspiracy where the government military goes door to door and confiscates weapons is just absurd. Who thought that one up, Adam Lanza?

la-sp-sn-20130214-001People who are against any further gun restrictions also point out that current laws on the books are not enforced. Of course, this is due to the limits of budgets of governments and the priority choices they are forced to make. The next thing they will say is that this is a mental health problem and not a gun problem. This sounds good and most people agree that mass shootings have a strong relationship with undetected troubles and untreated mental illness.

Some of these same people offer no solutions, however. The other thing pointed out is that again, areas where many people gather such as school, movie theaters, etc. are labeled as gun free zones. This draws the shooter to these places because there are no armed people who can fight back.

In Arizona, Colorado, and some other states there are currently attempts to pass legislation which makes it legal for anyone qualified to conceal carry on college campuses. The measure failed for now in Arizona but it has passed in Colorado. This “gun free zone” argument doesn’t seem reasonable. Shooters go to places like schools, malls, and theaters because there are large concentrations of people there. If some of them were armed, why do you think shooters would not go? Most of them want to die. They go to where they can make a statement.  Why would people with weapons make a difference? By the time they realize what’s happening, most of the damage has already be done.

Sandy-Hook-2The damage is done in mere seconds or just a few minutes, and it takes time to react. The shooter always has the element of surprise. That’s why at Sandy Hook, even with all that firepower, 11 out of 18 survived in the first  classroom because they heard the first gunshots outside and in the hallway and they had time to react.

If people in schools and malls are carrying weapons, the shooter will just adjust to this new condition to maximize the element of surprise.

images (7)As far as arming teachers and staff, have gun control opponents really thought this out carefully? The recent school shooting in Sparks, Nevada illustrates why this may not be such a great plan. “The 12-year-old boy, whose name has not been released, began by shooting a fellow student in the shoulder. Then he turned his gun on math teacher, Mike Landsberry, killing him before shooting a second student in the abdomen, Washoe County School District Police Chief Mike Mieras said.

After that, he shot himself to death with his pistol, which Sparks Deputy Police Chief Tom Miller identified as a Ruger 9mm semiautomatic.”

http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/22/justice/nevada-middle-school-shooting/

What happened was the math teacher was a combat veteran. He immediately and heroically tried to get the attention of the student and have the student concentrate only on the math teacher. This would allow other students to escape and find cover, while also preventing the shooter from entering the school where he could do even more damage. While trying to talk the shooter down, Mr. Landsberry was fatally shot. Now, had he been armed, gun-control opponents claim he could have just shot the student to death and ended the danger, as well as creating a deterrent for future shooters to consider. But what this “solution” doesn’t consider is the chaos and confusion of a shooting incident, as well as the ability of teachers and people who work with children to take a child’s life.

images (12)Up to the point that the math teacher got involved, only one student was injured in the shoulder. Could the math teacher then shoot a 12 year-old to death? How would he live with that? Would he be sued by the child’s parents? The only fatality would be the shooter and people would question why deadly force had to be used. What if a teacher mistakenly shoots an innocent student or a student gets caught in the cross-fire? What happens when students know that teachers and staff are carrying loaded weapons? Could they overpower the teacher and get hold of a weapon? These are some things to think about.

One of the Newtown teachers echoed the sentiments of many when he said if he were ordered to carry a loaded weapon, he would quit immediately.

This 12 year-old kid in Nevada wanted to and was ready to kill and to die. This was a mental health problem and could have had a solution, only he happened to have a weapon in his hand, which he probably got from a “law abiding gun owner”. What do you think would happen if the math teacher was armed and ordered him to drop the weapon? Most likely it would be “suicide by teacher”. Also, teachers with a spouse and children will think twice about walking into a live fire shooting and especially with high-powered weapons and large capacity magazines being used.

Because people were shocked and in fear right after the shooting, gun sales increased. Because people feared coming bans, restrictions and other legislation, gun sales increased even more. Gun manufacturers and the NRA ramped up the propaganda and sales increased even more.People were told that the government was coming for their guns, so they bought a lot of AR-15s .

The reluctance of many states and school districts to allow teachers and staff to conceal carry, led gun sales to increase even further. Political organizations have made it almost a right of passage for people of certain political persuasions to own and use guns, and this has led to even more gun sales. In Arizona and possibly other states, 2013 was Christmas for concealed carriers.

George Zimmerman would get strapped with his firearm just to go down to the local deli.

ct-shooting-bodies-2Adam Lanza’s weapons came from a “law-abiding gun owner”. Kip Kinkle’s guns came from a “law abiding gun owner”. James Holmes was a “law abiding gun owner”, until he took his weapons to the Aurora theater and started blasting away, shooting 72 people and killing 12. Yet the opponents of sensible gun control want you to know that this problem has nothing to do with guns, and that the proper solution is to do nothing.

People who are in favor of sensible gun safety legislation get angry because some people who own guns and call themselves “responsible gun owners” offer no reasonable solutions to gun violence or mass shootings. They show no responsibility for a problem which directly involves them. Also, the rolls of gun owners are increasing dramatically. Of course, a big part of the problem is mental health issues, yet it is the combination of a disturbed person and the ready access to firearms which are inextricably linked.

You can not address one without the other. Both these problems need to be addressed in a coordinated way.

628x471In debating the issues, the first thing conservatives like to do is to join the two separate issues of mass shootings and general gun violence together. Now they will say “how can a ban on 30-round magazines or some semi-automatic rifles save the victims of gun violence, mostly killed by handguns? These proposed bans have nothing to do with general gun violence but are directed at slowing the rate and the lethality of mass shootings.

How did Adam Lanza kill as many people as quickly as he did? He had 30-round magazines. How did James Holmes shoot 72 people in a movie theater? He mail ordered a 100-round capacity drum magazine for his rifle. Why weren’t more people killed in Aurora Colorado? Holmes was a bad shot and the drum magazine jammed. Why weren’t more children killed at Sandy Hook? Adam Lanza took time or fumbled while changing out magazines and 6 children were able to escape.

80b83026baef2727440f6a706700ff75Adam Lanza brought 10 30-round magazines and used seven, He had to reload six times. If he only had 10 round mags, he would have had to reload 14 times. Remember, Lanza also changed out mags before he ran out of ammo and at the most opportune times. He wouldn’t have been able to do that with a 10 round magazine.

The universal background check is aimed at both mass shootings and general gun violence. Some conservatives like to point out that places like Chicago have the most gun laws and also the most gun violence. This is the recurring theme that laws do not stop illegal gun owners and more laws, regulations and restrictions will do nothing. “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns”. This is the same thing as saying that in Iowa, there are more laws, regulations, and restrictions on corn than in Alaska, but there is much more corn in Iowa. In Chicago, there is more gun violence, so more restrictions were put on guns. Guns still find their way into Chicago illegally due to lax laws in other states and districts.

Any argument which advocates doing nothing should be rejected. Any opinion which offers no solutions is not a constructive opinion. The starting point has to be that we want to do something to reduce the incidents and the lethality of mass shootings.

sandy-hook-girls-AP84355411_620x350We want to do something to slow and reduce the rate of gun violence. If this can be done without further laws, regulations, and restrictions on firearms, then that’s wonderful, it should be tried.  But gun owners and enthusiasts should not expect that the 2nd Amendment is unlimited and that the government should not be concerned about public safety. They also should not feel that they have no responsibility to help solve the problem.

A gun is not equal to a car, an axe, or a fork, which are necessities. Yes. All three can be deadly, but cars are heavily regulated and controlled, and they are not designed to kill people. A an axe and a fork can be as deadly as a gun, but you would be hard pressed to kill 26 people in 5 minutes with a fork or an axe.

images (13)Where do we go from here? First, for good or ill, we do have the 2nd Amendment right of the people to keep and bear arms enshrined in the Bill of Rights of our Constitution. A firearm is as safe as the person operating it. But the idea that that right “shall not be infringed” can never be seen as an unlimited right. These firearms need to be safely kept in responsible hands and many people who want to own them need to be instructed on how to be responsible gun owners. There must be some sort of regulations on gun use and some restrictions on what weapons or “arms” can be kept and how and under what conditions people can “bear” them. Not to accept this is irresponsible and it weakens the 2nd amendment.

The full quote is: A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Where is the “well-regulated militia”? Will you rise up and protect me if the country is overthrown by external enemies or by a tyrannical government? I bet you would.

“The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution protects the right of individual Americans to keep and bear arms, regardless of service in a militia. The right is not unlimited and does not prohibit all regulation of firearms and similar devicesState and local governments are limited to the same extent as the federal government from infringing this right. The Second Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791, as part of the first ten amendments comprising the Bill of Rights.

images (10)The Second Amendment was based partially on the right to keep and bear arms in English common-law and was influenced by the English Bill of Rights of 1689Sir William Blackstone described this right as an auxiliary right, supporting the natural rights of self-defense, resistance to oppression, and the civic duty to act in concert in defense of the state.””

Another thing is that at some point, Americans need to realize that the overwhelmingly high rates of violent deaths, gun deaths, and mass shootings compared to the rest of the world shows that it is in part a problem of our culture. Temporary conflicts lead to permanent solutions where someone must “win”. The way to win is to totally defeat or kill your opponent. When drugs and alcohol or mental illness are added into this mix, it becomes even more deadly. A conflict can also be, as the Chinese say, an opportunity to grow and to improve a situation. It depends on what your culture is and what your learned response is to conflict.

Let’s look at our culture

Highest-grossing films of 2013:

1. Iron Man 3
2. Despicable Me 2
3. Fast & Furious 6
4. Monsters University
5. Man of Steel
6. The Croods
7. Gravity
8. Thor: The Dark World
9. World War Z
10. Oz the Great and Powerful

Doesn”t this tell you something? Think about it.

bildeOur society is based on the supremacy of the individual, competition and aggression. This is what is taught from early childhood and is reinforced everywhere in our society. This needs to evolve into a society based on group advancement, cooperation, empathy, and kindness. We need to at least head in that direction. Because, if not, violent criminals and mentally ill people will take this ingrained competitive and aggressive culture to its extreme conclusion, and these tragedies will continue again and again. The frequency and scale of the attacks will only increase.

So a change in culture where children learn to look out for others and to respond to and help troubled people can help our society immensely. A change in culture where people see violence as a weakness instead of as a strength could transform America. A culture where the value of human life is enhanced rather than degraded is also needed. A culture where people cooperate together to solve problems and advance together is better than our culture of zero-sum games where someone must win all and all the others must lose all.

There are more and more articles in the news where teens are attacking and even murdering their parents because their video game or smart phone was taken away.

We should look into the extent by which our culture both induces and increases mental illness.

ef7d724ed4b02827440f6a7067005a22Look around at our society, our politicians refuse to respect each other’s views and will not compromise in the least for the greater good. We take teenagers who have gone wrong and we throw their entire lives away in prison. We prey upon the weakest among us, we compete at everything and we reward aggression. Our society teaches our children to devalue human life in so many ways.  We cherish an absolute right to bear arms with no restrictions over the most basic and fundamental of all rights, the right to life.

Almost everyone agrees that there is a cultural element to the violence

On this, the one year anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary atrocity, Zero has been done to address mental health issues and Zero has been done to address gun safety and sensible gun control.

To the State of Connecticut: Show some, not all and not most, but some of the photos from the Sandy Hook massacre. The people have a right to see what happened and the families will be strong and they will understand.

Show the world what Adam Lanza did, and what we can expect again soon. You are not protecting the wounded parents and families by hiding the full horror of this vile act. Actually, hiding this is nothing short of criminal.

Gun control opponents should be listened to and respected. Educate yourself on firearms, the NRA, and know and understand this point of view. Thr 2nd Amendment is here to stay.

Gun control proponents should also be listened to and respected. The right to bear arms is not unlimited and it can never be so.

Don’t let gun control opponents tie general gun violence and mass shootings together. These are two separate issues.

If you truly believe that armed security should be in all schools, are you prepared to help pay for it?

memorialDon’t let gun control opponents tell you this is solely a mental health problem. The best way for mental health services to be available to all is for everyone to have access to affordable healthcare. Do they support affordable health insurance for all ?

Gun control opponents are right to say that eliminating certain high powered semi-automatic military-style weapons and high capacity magazines will not end violent behavior or mass killings. But in Australia, England, and Scotland, it has reduced mass killings.

It takes time to make bombs and to devise complicated plans. During that time, a person may have a change of heart. They have more time to deliberate. With guns, you take it with you and you point and shoot. It’s immediate and many times there isn’t as much time for reflection.

ang_4802_6gvau1n1_sji0jzq7Gun control opponents are right to say that there are millions of high powered semi-automatic military-style weapons  in use being operated carefully and legally right now. But, judging from many articles in the news, obviously not carefully enough

Gun control opponents are right to say that it’s not fair to restrict the rights of a large group because of a few hardened criminals and a few mentally disturbed people. Then these people need to be the ones to come up with a more viable answer to gun safety.

Don’t accept anyone’s view who is not offering an actual solution.

The vast majority of the people, including military veterans, police officers, NRA members, and gun enthusiasts believe there should be Universal Background Safety Checks for every gun purchase and transfer. There is no reason not to have this legislation passed. There must be some way to achieve this in a fair way that respects the Constitution.

The Constitution belongs to ALL of us, and is not the distinct property of a minority of people who enjoy owning and using high powered semi-automatic military-style weapons and high capacity magazines.

web_sandy_school-525x429We need to think about making changes to our current culture, where bullying, gun violence, political intransigence, and school and workplace shootings are expected and have become all but routine. The Jewish Rabbi at the Newtown High School meeting had it right, we need to have classes for our children about how to treat people and behave in civilized society. We should also have classes about mental illness and how to recognize it and support those who exhibit symptoms. We should have mandatory gun safety classes and continuing education and training requirements for gun owners.

Mental health issues and gun safety are inextricably entwined.

ae1b6415baeb2727440f6a70670041ea ltIntransigence and bluster are found on all sides of this issue. We should try to see this issue from all perspectives. But intransigence and bluster is what caused the Sandy Hook Massacre in the first place.  We are all one nation.

It’s time to get serious and to pass coordinated mental health AND sensible gun safety legislation to keep the mentally ill away from firearms and firearms away from the mentally ill, even if we have to step on a few snakes to do it.

The Sandy Hook Atrocity, JFK, and 154 Magic Bullets (part 2)

Fact based reporting

by Kenneth Jameson Jr.,

research by Amanda Chen,  edited by Rob  Roman

A 4-part series by a Sandy Hook Elementary alumnus on the one-year anniversary of the tragedy. An overview of Newtown from the inside, a description of what is now known about what happened on December 14, 2012 (Including a possible motive), an analysis of  the different sides of the issues, and what the prognosis is for slowing the rate of mass killings and gun violence in America are all discussed.

Part 2: The Killings

Warning: Graphic Content

Running to safety (click on photo to enlarge)

Adam Lanza regularly played many militaristic and highly realistic video games and violent movies where semi-automatic rifles were used. He became insensitive to the bloody, exploding bodies of the victims.

Here, he learned to change out magazines at the most opportune time, and not to wait until every last round was fired.

The School Shooting Game

This explains what was found later at the school. Lanza had intensely studied prior mass shootings, going so far as to make a chart with over 500 victims from past incidents and exactly what firearms and equipment were used.

Here is a sample of the video game.

Warning: Graphic Violence.

He was clearly going for the body count high score.

Thanks to the State of Connecticut, the full report they promised by the beginning of Summer, 2013, has still not been revealed. Instead, a whitewashed and watered down brief summary was released that is hardly adequate or conducive to understanding or helping to prevent future incidents. The State legislature even passed special legislation to overrule the usual freedom of information act requirements. While this is understandable, not enough information has been allowed out. In fairness, the State has mentioned that a more thorough report from the grossly inadequate November report will be forthcoming.

Connecticut School ShootingIt is very natural to theorize that Adam Lanza was happy at some point as a student at the Sandy Hook School. At some point, he was forced to realize that he was quite different and not quite accepted by the other kids.  It is almost certain that happiness in school ended for Adam sometime while a student of Sandy Hook Elementary School. It seems that smile on his face had disappeared forever.

Illustrating this fact, the latest report refers to Adam Lanza’s thinking about the Sandy Hook School: “A witness interviewed by police said that the Sandy Hook Elementary School “was (Lanza’s) life,” but the warrant does not elaborate”. Did Nancy Lanza, Adam’s mom, volunteer at the Sandy Hook school at some point or not? Yes, she did.

Was Nancy Lanza planning to volunteer at the Sandy Hook school in the future or not?  This is important information that is crucial to understanding why Adam targeted the school. It seems that whether she was planning on volunteering in the future or not, somehow, Adam Lanza  may have had the idea she was going to dump him off at a facility somewhere and spend her time with these children. What purpose is there in classifying this and making it top state secret?

It’s vitally important because we know that Nancy Lanza was seeking some kind of  dormitory type schooling for her son. Were they campus-like private institutions for mentally impaired people, or were they actual, normal colleges and technical universities she was looking at?

There are conflicting reports about whether Nancy was going to stay in Newtown while Adam was sent away to school. The latest report indicates that she may have been planning on going with him, but it seems that the guns and ammo would not. In either case, it seems a change in the new year was planned and Adam Lanza did not approve.

C732-1-WH64Like the John F. Kennedy investigation, key facts were locked up and withheld from the public.  That’s understandable in the JFK investigation, because the killing may have involved other shooters and conspiracies. It may have involved other co-conspirators even if Lee Harvey Oswald was in fact the lone shooter. The so-called “magic bullet” that conspiracy theorists love to talk about was not magic at all. Information that was hidden and secreted away led to misunderstandings that then led to the “magic bullet” conspiracy theory.  More basic and fundamental facts were also hidden which had no actual bearing on the conspiracy issue. These fatcs were withheld also, which led to more controversy, more misunderstandings, and more accusations of cover-up and conspiracy.

Kill-bill-kill-bill-8382808-1810-1175 ltAdam Lanza was interested, almost infatuated with warfare, weapons, and killing. Found in Adam’s home were nine ornate knives, a bayonet, and three samurai swords. Also found in the house was a damaged X-box and a smashed computer hard drive. Did Adam like to watch Kill Bill, Volumes 1 and 2? Are owning many firearms, playing violent video-games, displaying a combat mentality, and watching and re-enacting explicitly violent movies a problem? Maybe not for you and me, but maybe for some people who are not able to interact effectively and for the mentally disturbed. Maybe it’s a problem for an isolated person who finally wants to say “I was here!”.

758ebdb1bab22627440f6a706700beecWindows covered in black figure prominently in this case. In Adam’s bedroom, the windows were covered by black plastic trash bags, and he had a Dracula like aversion to sunlight.  He was highly sensitive to light and to noise. The gun locker was in fact located in Adam’s bedroom. Unlike many earlier reports, he did not break into the locker to get the firearms. Most probably, his mother kept the key on her person.

“The released search warrants of Adam Lanza’s home showed large amounts of ammunition in an open unlocked gun safe in his bedroom, as well as in a closet, a file cabinet, a shoe box and duffle bag. “Police also recovered medical records and journals authored by Adam Lanza and his brother, Ryan Lanza, and a holiday card from his mother with a check made out to Adam for the purchase of a C183 firearm. cz_83There were also receipts for the purchase and transfer of firearms.”

Supporters of the Constitution and especially the 2nd amendment right to keep and bear arms, were quick to point out that the “C183” firearm does not exist and that it most likely was a 14 megapixel digital camera manufactured by Kodak. If only that were true! Had Adam been encouraged to take an interest in photography rather than automatic pistols and high powered rifles, this incident may never have happened. The “C183” is most likely a CZ83, which is in fact a small but high caliber handgun manufactured in the Czech Republic.

Why did Adam Lanza want a micro-sized gun, which has the whallop of it’s .38 caliber and holds 15 rounds in the magazine? No doubt, it’s on many people’s Christmas lists.

The estimated 1,400 rounds discovered in Adam Lanza’s home seems like a large amount.  Gun owners scoff at this saying it is not at all an unusual amount, not even enough for a day at the target range.  kipland-kinkel-1-afpAs far as law abiding gun owners, we should listen to them, because they know the gun culture and they know many things about which they speak. In fact, Kip Kinkel had more rounds than that on his person after the school shooting in Springfield, Oregon

The facts we know show that Adam Lanza woke early on the 14th of December, 2012, or may not have slept at all. He either made his bed or it remained made up from the previous day. Nancy Lanza had just returned from another long trip where she was looking at various schools or institutions for Adam in The U.S. as well as England and Canada. Needless to say, we can surmise that if the school was in the UK or Canada, or if the US institution included on campus housing, those firearms were not going to be going with Adam. We can surmise that Adam was keenly aware that ‘the times, they were a-changin’.

Was there a discussion? Was there an argument? Was it before or after the trip or both? We don’t know this, but we do know that Adam shot his mom dead in her bed while she was most likely asleep. In his favorite video game, targets shot only once or twice could remain alive and fire back. Adam shot his mom four times in the head, covered her with plastic, and then took at least three photos. He left the camera and the .22 rifle at home.

ae1b6415baeb2727440f6a70670041ea ltIt’s important to know the facts. Today, November 25, 2013, a CNN reporter was discussing the new report and reported that Adam Lanza killed “20 children and 2 adults”. Actually, it was six adults at the school and twenty children. Reporters, please get the basic facts straight! The 26 doesn’t include his mother killed at his home. There was a definite and purposeful effort to exclude the mother from the 26 other victims. At first glance, this seems to be an innocent omission because the 26 victims were located at the school, and Nancy was not part of the school shooting. But it seems it is more than that.

ar 15 cropped lightNancy indulged Adam with his every desire and did not try to steer his interests into more productive and constructive avenues.  Because Adam responded enthusiastically to his mother’s penchant for collecting and firing weapons, she indulged him in this particular fascination. The school system tried to propose special help for Adam, but she insisted that her son be treated equally with the other children.  By the time Adam was at Newtown High School, she continued fighting the school system, claiming her son was much brighter than the others. She pushed him to enroll at Western Connecticut State University to prove her point, which worked well for a while, thanks to a handful of very understanding and good-hearted students, but this bright idea of Nancy’s ultimately resulted in Adam withdrawing from school altogether.

glockAdam got the key to the gun locker and he took out his babies, a Glock 10 mm handgun, a  9mm Sig Sauer P226 handgun, and a Bushmaster AR-15 high powered semi-automatic rifle and 10, 30-round, high capacity mags fully loaded. Adam loaded this equipment plus more mags for the pistols and a semi-automatic shotgun into his mother’s black sigHonda Civic and began the 5 mile trip to the school. He parked the car against the front brick wall to the right of the main entrance, and pointing towards the driveway entrance. This indicates he may have contemplated a shootout or an escape.

Thanks again to the Connecticut State Police and probably the FBI, there are unconfirmed reports that Adam, in preparation of the attack, had taped the 30-round magazines together for easier and quicker reloading. Were all the mags taped together or just the two? They know, but for some reason, this must be kept a state secret also. The school was equipped with locked doors that can be opened remotely in the office, and there were security cameras at the door and in the hallways.  Adam solved that problem by blasting through the safety glass near the front door with his AR-15 rifle and climbing through. He fired 8 rounds to make the hole in the window.

76f41019bade2727440f6a706700deb7 lt“Principal Dawn Hochsprung, school psychologist Mary Sherlach and lead teacher Natalie Hammond “immediately left the room where there was a morning meeting, and rushed to the source of the sounds. They encountered and confronted Lanza. A faculty member who was at the meeting said the three women called out “Shooter! Stay put!” which alerted their colleagues to the danger and saved their lives. Lanza shot and killed both Hochsprung and Sherlach. He fired 17 rounds in the hallway  as Hammond ran back to the meeting room and pressed her body against the door to keep it closed. Lanza shot Hammond through the door, in her leg and arm. She was later treated at Danbury Hospital”. One teacher was hit in the foot with a ricochet bullet while closing the door to her classroom.” – The Sandy Hook Report

Adam went into the Office, but hte workers were hiding.

A few weeks before, the school had a lock down drill, which included locking the classroom doors and covering the door windows with black paper. The teacher, Ms. Roig,  in this first classroom had not removed the black paper from the door window. In that classroom immediately to the left of the office, Adam could not see inside, and passed the classroom by, sparing the lives of everyone in that room.

Understandably, but tragically, the classroom doors could not be locked from the inside. This is done in many schools to protect children from a teacher or staff member with an evil intent.

970619_379054075546523_369161523_nAdam went into the next room where teachers Victoria Soto and Anne Marie Murphy had already hidden 5 kids in a closet. The other kids were under desks in the rear of the room and trying to get into the bathroom. Ms. Soto had gone to the door to try to lock it. Lanza came in, forgetting in the previous firings that he was low on ammo. He immediately shot Ms. Soto and then probably expressed consternation as the mag was empty. This is when he went to reload and 6 year-old Jesse Lewis yelled to the other kids to “Run!”.  These were the  6 kids that ran out of the school and down the driveway to a nearby home. Ms. Murphy was trying to help 6 year-old special needs student Dylan Hockley and  he died in her arms. Two teachers and 5 students were shot to death. The 5 kids hidden in a closet also survived. Two teachers and five students were killed in that classroom, and Adam had fired 49 rounds.  You do the math.

sandy-hook-demolition-kidsBy the time Lanza got to the third classroom, substitute teacher Lauren Rousseau and her aide, Rachel D’avino,  were already herding the kids into the small bathroom at the rear of the classroom. Adam immediately shot at the adults and this is when bullets went through the window and into some cars in the parking lot. He shot the two educators and then began methodically shooting all the kids, reloading several times. Noah Pozner was shot 11 times and his lower jaw was blasted away(his mom furnished this information so people would have a small idea of what this atrocity was really like).  One little girl in the corner of the room survived by playing dead. The shooter  was a good shot, and this was at very close range. Adam was not looking to leave any wounded survivors. The two teachers and 15 children were shot to death. Lanza fired 80 rounds. You do the math.

223-Ammo-550This is where the victim’s families need to be “brave and bold” for Newtown. The Connecticut State Police and the families need to show a few of the photos. Not any where the victims can be identified. Perhaps a few photos from after the bodies were removed should be released. This Nation needs to confront the reality and the sheer horror of this awful and vile act.

What does a hollow-point bullet travelling at 2,900 feet per second (967 yards per second) (884 meters per second) do to a 6 year old when it explodes on impact and breaks into multiple sharp fragments at super-sonic speed?

sandy-hook-shootingThese hollow point bullets then fragment and the pieces spin and careen through vital organs . Of course they are the ammo of choice for the police and for concealed carriers such as George Zimmerman because these bullets are less likely to exit the body and possibly hit an innocent bystander.

But they are hell to deal with in our nation’s Emergency Rooms. This is also the reason why so many more single gunshot victims now become fatalities. My Vietnam Vet buddy was an avid collector of firearms, a hunter of bear, and a gun enthusiast. This was prior shooting his wife, a nurse, and then himself with a .357 magnum.  Speaking for the higher calibers like .38 and .44, he used to say “In like a dime, out like a pie-plate”. I don’t think he was joking.

We know that some faces were unrecognizable and that limbs were blasted apart. This is the horrible reality. The incredible violence and carnage of this attack cannot be overestimated.  article-sandy-hook-shooting (2)There is no reason why a few photos should not be made public. Photos can be prepared which show the reality of what happened, but do not identify anyone. The incredible damage these bullets can do when victims are hit multiple times at close range with high powered ammo is absolutely shocking. Some people have bad imaginations and, as in the case of Emmett Till, seeing is believing and action was finally taken after his mother released a photograph of what was done to him. Two children still had signs of life and were rushed to the hospital, but nothing could be done to save them. This is a big reason for this to look wrong to conspiracy minded people. The scenes with all the cars and ambulances were long after the children were found.

Here’s a candidate for the Newtown Golden Cock award for February 2013:

Rock Star Ted Nugent

ted nugent guns-0313-de“National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent, 64, relied on a false and outdated report frequently promoted by conspiracy theorists to claim that no assault weapons were used in the mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. In fact, Connecticut authorities have stated that all of the Newtown victims were shot with a Bushmaster AR-15 assault weapon, with some victims receiving up to 11 gunshot wounds.

In a February 13 column for birther website WND, Nugent wrote, “No so-called assault weapon was used in the grisly murders of the children and teachers in Newton,” and instead suggested that four handguns were used to kill 20 children and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

“CNN recently promoted Nugent as having a “very firm grasp of the facts” about gun violence. ”

http://mediamatters.org/blog/2013/02/14/ted-nugent-revives-false-report-to-deny-an-assa/192678

Ted, you do have a “very firm grasp on the facts” about gun violence, and people should listen to what you have to say, but please stick to the facts. Also, you haven’t had a hit song since “Wango Tango” in 1980.

If it’s not really an “assault weapon”, why are people so hell-bent on claiming that it wasn’t used at Sandy Hook?

Here’s another candidate for the Newtown Golden Cock award:

“Facing calls to resign before even taking his seat, a recently elected Connecticut school board member has apologized for saying he would buy friends “a box of ammunition” for each of the “26 Days of Kindness” commemorating the one-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook massacre.

Gregory Beck, a 26-year-old police dispatcher and volunteer firefighter, was elected earlier this month in Brookfield, which borders Newtown, scene of the Dec. 14 elementary school bloodbath.”

article-sandy-hook-shooting (1)The refusal of the authorities to release even a modest amount of concrete information about this attack is a crime in itself.

Some people viewing this attack as a threat to the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, will continue to say this was a hoax perpetrated by the Federal Government as an attack on the right of the people to keep and bear arms. This is not unlike actions taken after the Shooting of President Kennedy 50 years ago, where way too many far fetched conspiracy theories and the general distrust of government was spawned and magnified by the refusal of the government to release enough modest information to the public.

Hoaxers even used the fact that all the pieces of the demolished school were disintegrated on site under security as proof of a conspiracy.

Why was this done? It was done so that bricks from the school wouldn’t be sold on e-bay.

Who can blame them? They want to see the proof for themselves. Here is what a conspiracy theorist has to say:

“Deception,Illusion and Propaganda are extensively being used to control the people. This blog is devoted to aid in the discernment of the tactics being used to deceive and manipulate society. “Ye Shall Know The Truth And The Truth Shall Make You Free” –  Christ Jesus”
article-sandyhook-harbus-1214

“I just can’t get it out of my mind as to why we have been shown absolutely no evidence of bodies or any damage that was done inside the school…….or photos of Adam Lanza entering the school….etc…etc. THEN…..TODAY….I couldn’t believe what I was hearing on the news……..
Besides barricading the school grounds and the heavy security presence, while the demolition is taking place…..The demolition contractors were made to sign a confidentiality paper that bans the workers from discussing anything they may come across inside the school…. WHAT??????? That makes absolutely no sense at all. What evidence could there be in the school that the people involved do not want to be made public? Perhaps lack of bullet holes and broken glass or lack of other evidence that shows the events didn’t take place as the official media version claims?

http://conspiracyanalyst.blogspot.com/2013/10/sandy-hook-school-demolition-why.html

If you believe that the Sandy Hook School shooting was a hoax, I understand why you have been made to feel that way, but God help you, there are no magic bullets here. You are wasting your time. Get yourself at least an elementary school education.

images (2)Since we don’t know, we assume that Adam Lanza then heard sirens coming up the school driveway. We do know he spotted a pair of policemen and he went out in the hallway. He then hid from them going back into Ms. Soto’s classroom where he shot himself in the head with his 10 mm Glock pistol.

The entire incident at the school took only 5 minutes.

He brought ten 30-round magazines with him for the AR-15. Three were unused and fully loaded. Seven were used. Of the seven, three magazines were completely empty, and the one in the rifle had 15 rounds left. One had 13 rounds left over. One had 11 rounds left, and one had ten rounds left. Adam Lanza had 301 rounds available, including one round in the chamber to start.

Adam had learned from the game to change magazines at the most opportune moment, rather than when the magazine was completely empty, which accounts for the three magazines with some rounds left over.

During this time, the police spotted and apprehended several people outside on the school grounds. One was a reporter, who picked up the news and headed to the School to observe. One was a parent who had been notified of the attack on his smart phone and came directly to the school. Another was a local looky-loo, who heard of the attack over the internet and came to see what he could see. All these people were taken to jail, as they were still on the lookout for a second shooter and they weren’t taking any chances.

As horrible as this was, it could have been much, much worse. All the teachers were heroes and did everything they could to protect the children. At the time that Lanza came in through the hole in the window and fired at the Principal and the school psychologist, two students were walking down the hallway to deliver attendance sheets to the office. A quick thinking teacher saw them walk by her doorway and whisked them into her classroom as bullets whizzed past them down the hallway.

Thanks to a black piece of paper on the window and 15 kids hiding quietly in a tiny 2′ by 3′ (.61 m x .91 m) bathroom with their teacher, who told them she loved them and meant it, more kids would have died. Kaitlin Roig thought quickly and made the right moves. Many other teachers went to great lengths to protect their children. One teacher even used xylophones to jam the doors closed. Thanks to Sandy Hook and Connecticut for being so up to date with lock-down and other security procedures, for many more would have died. Thanks to the quick response of the police, for Lanza wasn’t going to stop until the police closed in.

Maybe one of those surviving kids who rocketed out of Ms. Soto’s room and down the driveway of the Sandy Hook Elementary School, beat Bruce Jenner’s record for the 100 yard dash that day. I’m sure of it.

The Sandy Hook Atrocity, JFK, and 154 Magic Bullets (part 1) ( Dec 1)

Fact based reporting by Kenneth Jameson Jr.

Part 1: Overview

window rounds newNo man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of
thy friend’s or of thine own were.

Any man’s death diminishes me because I am
involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;
it tolls for thee. . . .

downloadNewtown Connecticut, the home of the Sandy Hook School Elementary School shooting, is a wonderful and magical town in New England. Many nice people proudly call Newtown their hometown and many good people live there today. Here is a nice article on the brighter side of Newtown.

http://restlessromantic.wordpress.com/2012/12/16/this-is-newtown/

There is also a darker side to Newtown, and 6a00d8341c339953ef00e551f70ccf8833-640withat’s what I want to talk about.

This is not a journalistic exercise. For just a few thousand American citizens, this story is intensely personal. To show why, I will tell you this: In the cafeteria of the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on the wall by the exit, was a plaque dedicated to John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States. This bronze plaque includes a profile bust of Kennedy and the inscribed words “Ask not what your Country can do for You, ask what You can do for your Country”.

A plaque such as this will almost certainly be prominently displayed in the rebuilt school.

old poppy topCountless Cub Scout “pinewood derbies” were held there in the cafeteria and the adjoining hallway. Right at ground zero of the killing zones and right next to the front doors and classrooms was where Cubs built their own small cars out of blocks of balsa wood to see who can come up with the race-winning design. The cars were powered by good old gravity. There were always advanced programs and excellent teachers there, including 3rd graders learning about biology and computers even in the first years of the 1970’s.

The high school mascot used to be the Indians. The Newtown Indians became the Newtown Night Hawks after a misguided campaign of political correctness. The decades long controversy ended in 1996 under High School Principal, Bill Manfredonia. Nearly 20 years earlier, as a high school wrestling coach and teacher, Bill Manfredonia, was rumored to have paralyzed a student and wrestler for life while demonstrating a wrestling hold. This incident was swept under the rug.

_wsb_278x272_Old_School_Indian“In 1705, English colonists purchased the Town site from the Pohtatuck Indians, a branch of the Pasgussett. It was originally known as Quanneapague. Settled by migrants  from Stratford and incorporated in 1711, Newtown residents had many business and trading ties with the English.”.-from Wikipedia

Rumor had it that the Sandy Hook School was built on an ancient Indian burial ground, and three teens were buried alive in the early 70’s while playing in a sandpit right at the edge of the school. Only months out of Sandy Hook school, one very pleasant and studious girl stopped showing up at school. The children at Newtown Middle School were told she had died “in an accident”. The 5th graders later found out she was shot to death by her own brother with a shotgun.

One student in 1972 was standing outside the school right where Adam Lanza’s car was parked when he claimed to see the bricks and mortar of the old chimney and wall actually expanding and contracting as if the entire building was breathing in and out. That student became deathly afraid, and never returned to Sandy Hook School again. That student was me. Also in the 70’s, the High School was closed for a day when the prom king and queen were found dead of CO1 poisoning in the back seat of a car. This was swept under the rug.

Bruce_Jenner_eating_WheatiesNewtown’s claim to fame is Bruce Jenner, the 1976 Olympic track champion who graced the front of Wheaties cereal boxes all over America. Bruce attended the school for a few years, where some of his track and field records still stand. People familiar with the TV show “the Kardashians” know that Bruce Jenner, then a motivational speaker, married Kris, the divorced wife of Robert Kardashian,, one of the lawyers from the OJ Simpson murder trial.

A highly reliable eye witness reported that in high school, Bruce Jenner’s favorite cereal was actually “Fruit Loops”. Newtown named their stadium, really a crater shaped pit lined with cement bunker type seating, “Bruce Jenner Stadium” in honor of their hometown Olympic hero. At the 25th anniversary of the dedication, Bruce Jenner was off in California and he wasn’t interested in returning to Newtown or contributing money to his stadium. Bruce refused to return phone calls from the Principal. The high school leadership angrily responded and Bruce Jenner’s name was removed forever from the stadium.

Both Newtown high school and Sandy Hook Elementary School are close to Route 34, which travels along Lake Zoar and the Housatonic River to New haven, home of Yale University. Sandy Hook is one district of Newtown, which used to be the poorer section of Newtown and probably still is. One of the most famous events in Sandy Hook was a gunfight in the streets of Sandy Hook center in the 70’s between two rival motorcycle gangs, the Huns and the Hell’s Angels. The son of one of the Huns, who’s dad kept his prize Harley in the living room cordoned off by thick velvet ropes, is the eye-witness who saw Bruce Jenner in the morning munching on Fruit Loops. This son of a Hun’s father later opened up a gentleman’s club in nearby Danbury.

DSC_9175copyDanbury was famous in the 1800’s as a manufacturer of hats. Mercury was used in the production of hats and many workers were poisoned and lost their minds. This is the home of and the original meaning of the term the “Mad Hatter”, from Alice in Wonderland. Bordering Newtown is the town of Bethel, where actress Meg Ryan attended High School. Another district in Newtown is called Dodgingtown. This District was so named because when tax collectors from the town of Newtown came to collect, the border residents said they were residents of Bethel. When Bethel tried to collect, the residents told them they lived in Newtown. Dodging taxes became somewhat of a local sport in this district.

Newtown has always been the home of many writers, bankers, college professors and airline pilots. In the center of town are stone churches and white churches and the most picturesque New England town imaginable, with a town Hall and country store, old colonial and a few Victorian homes lined with beautiful trees, crisp hedges and flower gardens.

download (1)In earlier decades, summer pastimes included jumping off the silver bridge, when it was actually silver (it’s finally being renovated), and swinging from the locally manufactured firehoses attached to high tree branches into the Housatonic river below. Because the General Store had an old fashion Bryer’s ice cream sign, the town center became the focus of a famous Bryer’s commercial. Kids waterskiing and tubing on Lake Zoar became the focus of a famous Mountain Dew commercial

Sometime in the 70’s between Newtown center and Sandy Hook village, near an old overhead train bridge, an ice cream shop, imaginatively named the “Ice Cream Shop” opened and quickly became very popular. images (8)For decades the owners have closed the shop in the wintertime, leaving a sign on the glass doors that simply says “gone fishing”. Decades later, this store is still in existence, looks exactly the same and is still a big hit. From Time to time in the 70’s and 80’s,, a too-tall tractor trailer coming off  I-84, would smoke up the tree lined streets of Route 34, through the tiny village of Sandy Hook, up the hill and past the Ice Cream Shop to the narrow and low overhead railroad bridge, and get wedged under the bridge, its top being all but peeled off. The engineering solution would seem to be to dig the street a few feet deeper or to lift the bridge a few feet higher. But in typical Newtown fashion, nothing was ever done about it and so, of course, the same thing is still happening from time to time, even today.

In the center of town are the crossroads of Route 25, leading to Danbury and Bridgeport and Route 34, leading to New Haven and adjoining both Newtown High and indirectly, the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIn the center of this crossroads is the iconic and huge flagpole waiving a giant American flag. Near the crossroads is a white colonial meetinghouse topped with the quintessential Newtown icon, the famous golden cock (or rooster). During the Revolutionary War, many residents of Newtown, then a manufacturer of furniture, firehoses, hats, and tea bags, were torries or British loyalists, who supported the British Army. Some of the meetings in that meetinghouse were about how best to help the Redcoats. “Late in the war, French General Rochambeau and his troops encamped there in 1781 during their celebrated march on their way to the siege of YorktownVirginia, which ended the Revolution”.

While encamped at Newtown, some French soldiers who were no friends of the American torries, took over the meetinghouse and used the golden cock for target practice. So the golden cock has three or so bullet holes in it which were later patched with silver. This was very good shooting, by the way.

Town_of_Newtown_seal_SMALL_FOR_WEBSITE_ONLYNovember 19, 1996 is a date known to Newtown residents. On this date, a Danish flight attendant went missing during a severe snowstorm. Later that night, airline pilot Richard Crafts was spotted by a snowplow driver a long way from his home near LakeZoar and the “silver bridge” using a chainsaw and a woodchipper. Small pieces of his wife, Helle Craft’s body were later recovered from the shore and in the lake itself. This was the famous Woodchipper Murder. Helle Crafts was “disappeared” by a woodchipper, but evidence at the home indicates that she was probably murdered with a blunt instrument or gun. It’s the easiest way. Richard then hid his wife in a new freezer and transported her to the lake by means of a rental truck. Newtown couldn’t keep this quiet. This event was just too big to sweep under the rug.

One more thing about Newtown. It’s as different now from the Newtown of the 70’s and 80’s as JFK airport is from Idlewild Airport. Idlewild became JFK airport after the assassination 50 years ago in November, 1963. Newtown is no longer a typical New England town. Newtown is fast becoming one of the richest towns in America.

home3Newtown is located in Fairfield County, one of the wealthiest counties in one of the wealthiest states in one of the richest countries in the world. It is and always was 95% white. The median income is $95,000 per year. The median home price, even in this economy is near $400,000 (the Lanza home is valued at $553,000). There are a large number of homes that are  priced at $700,000 and above. Many people who grew up there cannot afford to live there. Fairfield County abuts New York City directly, and as the surrounding towns to the east developed and filled up, Newtown real estate increased in value exponentially.

home 2It is jammed packed with corporate heads (Mr. Lanza is a Vice President of General Electric), stockbrokers, politicians, bankers military contractors and insurance executives. This is somewhat of a red town in a blue state, there are plenty of conservatives and tea party patriots. When the High School changed its name from the Indians, one of the alternatives could have been the Newtown Golden Cocks. Instead, with many professional residents commuting to the giant military contractors Sikorsky Aircraft (United Technologies) in Stratford and General Dynamics nearby, the Night Hawks was found to be a more apt choice.

But the richness of Newtown doesn’t seem to translate into good school facilities or top-notch high school teachers. Any school student from Newtown will notice something when they go to visit other schools in the surrounding towns. The schools and facilities are much nicer. This may be because some of the more vocal people in Newtown are “fiscally conservative”. This means they are cheap. To be fair, many improvements have been made to the high school over the decades. But for some strange reason, the administration at the high school has always been somewhat obtuse and the majority of the teachers there have always been not so good, while teachers in the lower grades are generally excellent.

Earlier this year, the towns people seemed to be against either building a new school on another site or demolishing and rebuilding a new school on the same site. The majority were calling for refurbishing the old Sandy Hook School, but fortunately, common sense prevailed. Where did these vocal people get this insane idea? Probably from the far right media, where they were squawking about how Newtown would be wasting money by demolishing the school.

Here is the news report”: “Some Newtown residents say the school should be demolished and a memorial built on the property in honor of those killed Dec. 14. Others believe the school should be renovated and the areas where the killings occurred removed. That’s what happened at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., after the 1999 mass shooting.”

“Those appear to be the two prevailing proposals as the community begins discussing the school’s fate. A public meeting on the building’s future drew about 200 people to Newtown High School on Sunday afternoon, with another meeting set for Friday. Town officials also are planning private meetings with the victims’ families to get their input.
Sunday’s meeting was an emotional gathering with many speaking in favor of keeping the school.”
This mirrors the very emotional far right talking heads and posters from around the country concerning the plans for the Sandy Hook School.
So out of the 200 who went to the first meeting, the majority were very vocal about the renovation idea. That’s real nice if YOUR child doesn’t have go the school where the bloodbath occured and sit in the same classrooms where the children urinated and defecated in utter fear as the little bodies were torn apart by fragmented shrapnel fired at 880 meters per second into their little bodies in the second worst school shooting in American History.

Yes Columbine was renovated and re-opened, but Columbine was a newer, more modern school. The Sandy Hook School, which originally was an “L” shape, but has been added onto over the years, was built in 1954.

images (11)

This refurbishing was an option that could never be allowed to happen and just made no sense. Probably out of embarrassment because the whole nation was watching, and with some additional funding of $50 million by the state, the townsfolk finally voted to demolish the school and rebuild on the same site. I believe that was the best solution. The Indians would say “Bad idea, townsfolk. You should have rebuilt on a new site”.

Down route 34 and not far from the Newtown High School and the Sandy Hook school is a large, rambling home right on the route which used to be called the Wheeler house. This was purchased in the late seventies by Starsky and Hutch star, Antonio Fargas, who images (15)played”Huggy Bear” a pimp and informant, a sort of friend and wiseguy nemesis of Starsky and Hutch. Antonio taught theater classes at nearby Western Connecticut State College (now University) in Danbury.

His wife happened to be white. Antonio was a very friendly and hospitable man with a great personality and he had endless hysterical stories to tell. He welcomed and invited many Newtowners to come and talk to him and visit him at his home, and for a brief time he was Newtown’s resident celebrity. Antonio’s father was a garbage man in New York City, and his is a true story of the American dream.

Antonio wasn’t living in Newtown long and he abruptly moved out when a large wooden cross was ignited and burned in his front yard. This history was “disappeared” and swept under the rug.

2009 NFL - Oakland Raiders Minicamp - May 10, 2009One of Antonio’s children, Justin, later became a star of the Oakland Raiders American football team.

So Newtown has it all, the good, the bad, and the ugly. Some things haven’t changed. By listening to the people at the town meeting they held shortly after the shootings, there are still some truly wonderful people there. And, yes, even some dedicated teachers. It’s not really the ideal New England town portrayed in the Bryer’s commercial. That’s the way reality works. It is and it isn’t.  It’s far from the threshold to the gates of hell either. For most past and current residents, it’s as close to heaven on earth as many will get.

newtown nighthawks ltThe Newtown Nighthawks football team, seen wearing the green and white colors of Sandy Hook Elementary in place of their traditional blue and gold, beat Bethel 22-14 at their first home game, and went on to end their regular 2013 season undefeated with a 12-0 record. That’s typical for the football team, which never gives up, works together as a team, often comes back from seeming defeats, and always strives for a victory.

images (9)Of course, everyone knows that on December 14th, 2012, in the halls of Sandy Hook school in Newtown, Connecticut, the normal sounds of learning, scuffling footsteps and laughter, were suddenly broken by the sounds of shattering glass, riveting fear, smoke, screams and gunfire from a high powered AR-15 semi automatic rifle and seven, 30-round high capacity magazines packed with exploding hollow point rounds.  One mentally ill resident of this quiet bedroom community woke up that morning in a beautiful home stocked with a large variety of guns and ammo. He made his bed very neatly, and then he grabbed several of the weapons in that home and went on to shake the civilized world with a completely senseless and incomprehensible act of violence.
